Description: 1876 Aug 14, envelope from Soochow (which is from where this correspondence is documented as having originated) to Charleston, South Carolina, bearing Banknote (issue 1870) 2c, 6c and 10c, cancelled by cork type and the 10c additionally, tied by "U.S. POSTAL AGCY. SHANGHAI" c.d.s., showing "U.S. POSTAL AGENCY SHANGHAI REGISTERED" c.d.s. and straight-line "REGISTERED" handstamp adjacent, endorsed "To be registered" by the sender /
Note: Single registered rate to the United States, via US Post Office in Shanghai, 18 cents. A great rarity - one of only three recorded examples of this U.S. Postal Agency registered c.d.s.
